Certified instructor description: A solid interval program — the aerobics and toning are both fast-paced and “choreographed.” The fast pace keeps you burning fat; the choreography keeps you motivated (even the toning is constantly changing — no static, same-move repetitions). The four cardio segments vary in impact and intensity. They range from basic marches and step-touches to slightly-more-challenging sports and Latin dance moves. The two body-sculpting sections efficiently work your upper and lower body at the same time (always moving and always different). Led by Alison Davis. Requires 3 to 5 lb. dumbbells. ©2007. Note: previously only available in “The Firm TransFirmation” kit. DVD has: 1 premix (25-min. alternate workout)., Spanish option, Region 1.

The Firm: Cardio Overdrive

I love this one!
This is one of my favorite workouts! Alison is definitely one of my favorite instructors (Firm or otherwise). This is an awesome workout for burning fat and toning at the same time. There are modifications to make it harder or easier to suit your fitness level and of course you can always use lighter or heavier weights. Also if you are running short on time there is the 25 minute express option. This was so worth the money!!! - posted by Joanie on 3/26/2012
Great Workout
This is great all over body workout. It is challenging but they do have a girl who is doing the lower impact version that you can follow. It can be a little challenging the first few times you do in following all the steps but just keep with it and it all comes to together after you get used to it. I highly recommend this video for the all over workout, the length of the video (enough to get a good workout but not so long you need a whole hour), and the intensity of the workout as you can custom fit it to your level. - posted by Gina on 9/22/2011
A mixed bag
This is a decent interval workout but it's not one of the better Firms. It's marked intermediate but I'd say beginner/intermediate is more accurate. I liked some of the weight-lifting moves but there weren't enough of them and I definitely needed heavier weights than what they recommended. I was also surprised there was only one ab move, a standing compound crunch/triceps extension. No floor work. The cardio is mostly basic stuff, there are a few fun combinations and a few that had me checking my watch. Some of the combinations are put together a little awkwardly and don't flow very well. For that same reason I didn't really like the cool down which is something I don't normally notice. Alison is sweet and demonstrates excellent form but I find her kind of wooden. I probably won't do this that often. I think this would be a good choice for beginners though. Otherwise, Get Chiseled and Pump Jump and Jab are much better Firm interval options. - posted by Vanessa on 7/3/2011
Favorite Cardio DVD
This is my favorite cardio dvd. It took a few times through for me to get all the moves, but now I love it. You have to concentrate, which keeps things interesting. I love that it has the beginner option for when you're starting out. I usually skip the cool down section, but otherwise I highly recommend this dvd. Love the instructor and the moves! - posted by Jen on 3/21/2011
Not a Bad Workout But...
With this workout I did get a sweat on; but if you have problems with your knees don't get this one. Having to slow down to low impact really brings your heart rate back down...not what I was looking for. - posted by Stacey on 3/20/2011
Horrible...
This is the second of two Firm DVDs with this instructor and I'm sad to say I hate them both. I like the Firm and I like what it does for my body but this really does kind of go away from the Firm method. It uses very little resistance and is mostly aerobics/cardio that, in itself, is horribly choreographed and cued. As another reviewer mentioned, the moves didn't flow naturally - they were too choppy and all over the place. She was "adding on" before you got the combo and there were just way too many combos. NO ab workout. The stretch was really hurried...the only good thing about this entire workout is that it made me sweat. It goes back. - posted by Julian on 3/16/2011
Keeps you motivated
I enjoy this instructor and have other videos that she leads. This is a challenging, yet fun video. I highly recommend it - posted by Paula on 2/17/2011
Usually a Firm fan, but this is just boring.
Hi - I've been doing "The Firm" workouts since the first one came out on VHS, so I'm not a newbie here (I'm also an ACE Certified group exercise instructor and a ballet teacher, so they're not going to trip me up with fancy dance moves). Fact is, this workout is boring. VERY repetitive, with monotonous music and moves that do not flow naturally. I actually turned it off yesterday about 20 minutes in and did an On Demand Workout from my cable TV company instead. It's just one person's opinion, but I think there are better options out there -- even from The Firm. This one is a drag. As for the difficulty (some say it's a "great workout" others that it's too easy. I think that depends on your form and what you put into it. Still, I couldn't get past the bad choreography and repetitiveness. - posted by Sparky091601 on 1/17/2011
Gets Better & Better
I really liked this workout when I bought it two years ago... however, I grow more fond of it every time I do it. I have a rotation of about 45 videos that I do, and everytime I come to this one I truly enjoy myself and get an awesome workout. Great workout, great variety, I NEVER have to look at the clock during this one ;) Love it... - posted by April on 10/8/2010

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.

Premixes
X
These are alternate workouts created by the manufacturer. They use the same content as the main program (i.e. the very same video footage). But the sections are re-edited into pre-made alternative workouts that you select from a menu. These are often condensed versions of the main workout.
Spanish option
X
In addition to English, you can choose to hear the program in Spanish.
Region 1
X
This DVD is designed for US and Canadian DVD players. It will NOT play in most foreign country players.
Level
X
Beginner: Just starting out, very overweight or haven't exercised in over six months.

Intermediate: Active in sports, dance or any regular exercise (2 to 3 times per week).

Advanced: Very active in sports or consistently work out four or more times per week.

Aerobics impact
X
Lower Impact: Both feet never leave the ground at the same time. This minimizes stress on your knees.

Higher Impact: Includes movements like jumps, hops and skips. Very high-impact is called plyometrics.

Mixed Impact: This alternates or combines the above styles.

Aerobics choreography
X
Basic: The easiest to follow. It ranges from simple walking-style marches to sports and athletic movements.

Complex: More intricate combinations and patterns. They're ideal for people who like to dance.

Moderate: More interesting than Basic, less dancy than Complex.

Toning emphasis
X
Upper body: Arms, chest and back.

Lower Body: Legs, thighs, hips and buttocks.

Abs: Abdominals (stomach), core and sometimes lower back.

Total body: Tones all three of the above muscle groups.

Floor aerobics & toning
X
Definition: Includes two workout activities. The aerobics segments are fast-paced standing movements like marching, dancing and jumping. These segments require no equipment. The toning sections are slow, controlled movements working against a resistance. These may include Pilates and weight training.

Benefits: The combination of both activities provides a balanced workout. The aerobics burns calories, strengthens your heart and increases stamina. The toning builds lean muscles, increases your metabolism and makes everyday activities easier.
