Certified instructor description: Fast-moving, with no wasted time, it’s a huge variety of Pilates-style moves in just 30 minutes. They all use the Firm Pilates band that’s included with the DVD (a long, flat latex sheet, similar to a Dyna-band). The band serves two purposes — it increases the intensity of some moves and it helps maintain the correct body position in others. All the Pilates classics are here, from leg circles and the hundred to double leg stretches and planks. In addition, you get Pilates-band variations of traditional toning moves like pushups and bicep curls. Alison Davis’ cuing is encouraging and supportive (“nice big circles if you can, if not then just keep them small”). ©2006.

The Firm: Pilates Band (with band)

Not what I expected
I am an intermediate/advanced exerciser and this workout was not challenging at all. The arm section of this DVD had some moves that seemed impossible to do. Even though it is only 30 minutes long, it seemed to drag on. I felt like I didn't burn, sculpt, or tone in this workout like it advertised. I would skip this one. - posted by Aimee on 8/5/2011
THIS ISN'T THE BEST PILATES WORKOUT OUT THERE:(
If you have any experience with Mari Winsor and her style of pilates, then I don't think this is the workout for you! It's not probably a bad workout for someone new to pilates, but if you are used to another method stick to it. - posted by DEE on 6/14/2011
Great Core work out
I wanted to add pilates to my workouts to add more core work and flexibility. Alison gives good cues so that you don't have to necessarily watch her to be in the correct position when you are on the floor. The band work adds difficulty to the workout. - posted by Jeanne on 5/8/2011
Wow! Different but Good
I really liked this video from The FIRM. I have been doing FIRM videos/DVDs for years and love when something new comes out from this group of trainers. I really enjoyed this workout. You get a good solid workout for your money. I would definitely recommend this workout for anyone wanting to change up their workouts. - posted by Evie on 6/21/2010
Really like it
I really like this workout. The band is great and I love the music. I always feel more loose and stretched right after doing it and the next morning. - posted by Anne on 3/19/2010
Low Beginner at best
If you work out on a regular basis this workout will completely waste your time. There is no challenge or sweating whatsoever even if you choose a heavy resistance band. By no means should this be labeled 'intermediate'. I gave it 2 stars anyway, because Allison does a good job instructing and it is less robot-like than other Firm workouts. - posted by holly on 3/7/2010
Great workout!!
This is my first experience with Pilates and I found this DVD enjoyable and the workout to fly by! You will feel your muscles working from head to toe, especially if you've done this type of a workout before. There is nothing to cover breathing technique for the hardcore pilates lovers in the world, but you can't help but do the breathing style while doing the poses. I found that this workout really helped to relax me and stretch me out while providing a burn to much needed weaker muscles of my body. Bc I haven't done Pilates before I now understand why a pilates mat is needed instead of a yoga mat. It irritated the bursitis in my hips. Again, that was the mat I used, I am sure. I am only disappointed bc more emphasis isn't put into the core muscle, as in, more exercises for them. The beginning of the DVD really fired up my abs and back and it just would have been nice if more focus could have been placed here throughout the workout. I do understand about core stability via other poses and exercises, but some true core work is what I was looking for. It's got variety and is like I said, relaxing. I will do this one a couple times per month along with other core-focused pilates DVDs in hopes of improving the strength of this area. - posted by Julia on 1/28/2010
I love it!
I've never done pilates before, and Alison isn't my favorite teacher. Usually her workouts are extremely repetitive. But this is only a half hour and I love it! I don't break a sweat but I reeeeally feel it. She works every muscle group and it's a relaxing, very effective way to do so. I usually use 10 lbs weights for bicep curls in other workouts and my biceps were actually a little sore after doing this the first time. When I can I add this to my other workouts for an extra stretch and burn but if I only have time for this I know I'm getting a great full body workout in 30 minutes. Looong lean muscles, here I come! - posted by Lacey on 1/20/2010
cool band moves yet relaxing
I enjoyed the vibe of this thirty minute DVD. I used it at the end of my day and I was so relaxed afterward. This was my first pilates type DVD and I loved using the band. FYI: Many of the moves in this workout are also in Powerfit by Stephanie Huckabee. I love that they did upper and lower body. I thought this was a nice light, toning workout and you get to be barefoot! There are also some good hip stretches! - posted by Atara on 7/16/2009
Pilates - Firm Style!
Love this pilates workout. Have been trying to use this as my cool down for every FIRM workout I have been doing with my Rotation so use it to complement my workout. Always look forward to this and the 30 minutes definitely flies by. Enjoy using the resistance band with this and look forward to long lean muscles with continues use. It is a great basic Pilates tape...$ well spent in my opinion! - posted by Mina on 4/17/2009
