Time graph for The Firm: Power Yoga
The Firm’s unique approach to yoga, these smooth-flowing routines feel more “athletic” than “mystical.” This is true yoga, so you’ll get all of yoga’s well-known benefits: balance, flexibility and strength. The moves include all the classics, from “downward dog” and “warrior” to “cobra” and “child’s” pose. However, the emphasis is on stretching and toning the muscles, not on achieving a “mind-body connection.” In fact, there is no yoga jargon at all; Kirsten Strohecker cues the moves with common, easy-to-understand terminology. Ideal for “non-yoga” people. ©2004.

The Firm: Power Yoga

Oh My Gosh!
I've never done yoga before and thought,"There's no way I'm going to get a great workout from stretching." I picked this up because I love The Firm. But by the time I got to the 4th position I was out of breath, I was sweating, and I was thinking GOD HELP ME! This was tough, but not in a bad way, but a good way. This is hands down one of my favorite Firm videos of all time. It is really a breath of fresh air, you are so relaxed by the end you could sleep. It's great for those days you want to workout, but just not up to lifting. You have to get this! It's a must for your workout collection. - posted by Chelsea on 6/3/2008
Love it!
Kirsten's timing is so in sync with the breathing that it really makes the poses flow. I work up a sweat every time I do this video! It's short enough to do in the mornings before work and keeps my body loose and feeling tuned in. - posted by Catherine on 5/12/2008
Good power yoga workout
I've had this dvd for a few years. I tend to be on-again, off-again with my excercise, and thankfully, I'm on-again now and feeling great! This yoga video is tough and I always feel the burn! This "power" yoga feels more like a standard workout than most of my other yoga tapes, which leave me relaxed and refreshed. My one fault with this program is the instructor. Her voice is really annoying to me & grates on my nerves. She sounds like a Valley Girl to me. Other than that, a good workout. I will plan to use it for a change once in awhile. - posted by Mary on 5/6/2008
Super stretch!
I am writing this the morning after I've completed this workout. I usually do not write reviews but this is worth the review. After completing the workout and sleeping all night, I feel much looser and more relaxed. I have used the Yogilates DVD's which I also love, but this gives you a much better stretch. I agree with some of the other reviewers that the participant completing the beginner workout should be on camera more often -- or perhaps positioned closer to the instructor so that she could also be seen. That is my only criticism, however, of this fantastic stretch! - posted by Mary Anne on 4/17/2008
Refreshing
This is the first workout video that I have ever done. I usually prefer high-intensity cardio workouts, but who knew that something that appears so basic such as yoga could be so fun, effective, and invigorating. It is a good video to do on days that you don't have as much energy to do an intensive cardio routine, but you definitely want to do something. - posted by Michelle on 3/28/2008
Great supplement to your other workouts
This is the perfect workout to add to your rotation. It has some good stretching and strength moves without lots of complicated lingo for those unfamiliar with yoga. I do lots of yoga videos and classes--everything from Bikram yoga to very gentle classes. This isn't as tough as some, but it's perfect for days when I'm short on time and energy. Several reviewers have mentioned the lack of "spirituality" in this workout. Sure, there's a mind/body component to some yoga practices, but many folks initially start to practice yoga to reap the physical benefits. Firm Power Yoga definitely leaves your body feeling refreshed and strong, and I find that my mind is feeling pretty darn good afterward without the instructor having to tell me how to make that happen. - posted by Leslie on 3/25/2008
A Good Yoga DVD to add to your rotation...
I love yoga and the Firm so I was excited about the union of both in this DVD and ordered it! I have been using this workout for a few months for what I call my "7th Day Stretch" and find it be a great stretching and relaxing time on the mat after a week of the Firm and treadmill work. Kristen is a good instructor and is good about keeping the moves easy to follow yet challenging enough for a good stretch. The only thing I don't like is that she doesn't ever use yoga terms or names for the moves - I get that the Firm is calling this FirmYoga but I think it would be a good thing to expose people to the language of yoga...other than that, it's a great way to spend a day in which you've almost decided NOT to workout but decide at the last minute to do so. This one feels good - as yoga always does! - posted by Lydia on 2/24/2008
Great workout!
I'm not a big fan of the mind/body connection so this DVD is great for me! I get a good stretch and a good sweat without getting the whole Yoga feel. Love it and do it every sunday to stretch out after running and weight training during the week. - posted by Wendy on 2/18/2008
Great Workout!
I have been wanting to try yoga for a while but can't get into the spiritual aspect of it so this video was great. Doesn't teach you the names of the yoga poses, but you feel great after and it really works you out. - posted by Wendy on 2/18/2008
Thumb's Up!
I just got done with the Firm's Power Yoga and really enjoyed it. While experienced and die-hard yoga people may find it dull, this novice found it envigorating. I feel completely stretched and yes, taller! I did a circuit workout two days ago that included 15 prisoner squats, 15 pushups (modified using steps), 15 (each leg) diagonal lunges, 60 jumping jacks, 15 (each leg) tall steps ups, and 15 dumbell overhead swings. Did the whole circuit twice with 2 minutes rest inbetween circuits. I was SORE these past two days, esp. glutes, inner and back of thighs. After a high intensity interval workout on the treadmill this a.m., this yoga dvd felt absolutely wonderful and left my body very, very loose. The last stretch was perfect for where I was most sore. I've been trying new things, including Pilates, and this fits the bill for me. I need more flexibility and I would do this once a week after working out hard all week to give my muscles some much needed relaxation. It's not an 'easy' workout; your body is engaged the entire time. Somes moves were difficult for me so I just modified. They should definitely have shown the beginner girl more. Lots of wrist bearing positions and having a very weak left wrist made me improvise some of the hand positions. I'm hoping that maybe this workout will improved my wrist strength. Loved the music, especially the Spanish guitar bits. If you are new to yoga or just want a thorough body stretch/strength type workout then buy this dvd. - posted by Jo on 2/8/2008

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.
