Certified instructor description: Three very different workouts: dance aerobics, aero/tone intervals and blended aero/tone. The variety of techniques and instructors will keep you challenged and motivated day after day. “Cardio Dance Slim Down” has three easy-to-follow dance segments — hip hop, Latin and disco. “Cardio Inferno” alternates intervals of athletic-style aerobics with isolated and multi-muscle body sculpting. “Ultimate Fat Burning” is a tough program that blends the cardio right into the dumbbell toning. All three workouts feature clear, direct “Firm style” cuing. Requires 1 to 5 lb. dumbbells. ©2010. Note: Programs originally released in 2006 and 2007.

The Firm: PowerBurn 45

Too dance-focused for me
While I have only done two of the three sessions, it is a bit more dance-like than I expected. I was under the impression there was one dance session and two cardio/toning sessions, but they are all dance-focused. Not really my cup of tea. I have other Firm videos that I love, but this one is not my style. - posted by Barb on 2/17/2012
Good workout
I like this video and if you don't have the cardio express video worth buying. My disappointment is I had the previous video and felt I nearly bought the same thing twice. - posted by Paula on 9/28/2011
Disappointing
I have been a Firm believer for years, but this one was repetitious and boring. Generally these DVDs are varied and fast paced, however PowerBurn 45 is minutes of the same thing. I will do my other 20+ DVDs before I do this one again. - posted by Joanna on 7/14/2011
Good Variety
Having the variety of 3 workouts was nice. Cardio inferno is my favorite for a lighter workout day. If you have knee problems the other 2 workouts are not as good. - posted by Stacey on 3/20/2011
Like the variety
Overall I liked this video. Has 3 very different workouts that get my heart rate up, though I use them on my lighter workout days. The cuing for Cardio Inferno was difficult at times and hard to get some of the steps right. I really liked the Fat Burning workout the best, works my whole body and a bit more intense that the Cario Inferno. - posted by Anne on 2/24/2011
Best of the Combos So Far
PowerBurn 45 is by far the best (and most used) of the recent Firm Combo DVDs they have put out. I know some reviewers were upset in seeing that these were older titles just compiled into one DVD, but for those newer to The Firm that did not have these DVDs already, it made for an unbelievable savings. Ultimate Fat-Burning WO was a great cardio-strength 40 minute workout. Good cuing and some tougher-than-expected segments from Alison. Allie's Cardio Dance Slim Down is easy (IMHO) but can easily be upped to a higher intensity with jumps and light handweights. I really enjoy this workout when I modify it to a higher level. Cardio Inferno, however, was my surprise favorite. I have been less-than-impressed with Sue Mi in other videos but she does a nice job here and the intensity of the cardio segments was much higher than I anticipated. Overall, a great deal for the price. I use all three of these in my rotation frequently (with the add on's to Allies as explained above). I am in my early 30's, a mom of 3, and work out with The Firm 6 days a week. - posted by Shannon on 2/23/2011
A great value!
This DVD is a great value. All three workouts are fun and effective, but the Ultimate Fat Burning Workout alone would have been worth the price of the DVD. It has become my favorite workout in my collection. It makes me sweat like crazy, but the routines are really fun, too. Just when I am running out of steam, another segment starts, and I find myself excited to keep going. As for the Cardio Dance Slim Down with Allie, it is a little on the easy side. But the routines are fun and "dancy." It will be great for one of those days when I am not motivated to workout or feeling tired. Cardio Inferno was surprisingly challenging. It kicked my butt! I had read some negative reviews about Su Mi's cuing abilities, but I thought she did fine. It was a great, shorter workout. - posted by Stephanie on 2/17/2011
It's a keeper!!
This is a great workout and its definitely worth the money. Of the three I have only done Alison's Ultimate Fat Burning Workout. I couldn't believe that the time had gone by so fast. I didn't feel like I was too winded or that I wasn't getting a workout. It was "just right" :) I was sore the next day which is a great sign. If you need more of a challenge just increase your weights. Can't wait to try the other two workouts, but every time I put this in I just want to do Alison's. She is a great instructor! You will be pleased. - posted by Tommi on 2/17/2011
Love It
I absolutely love all three work-outs on this DVD. I didn't think I'd like the dance segment but it was a lot of fun and I had a good work-out even though it was the first time I tried it. It's difficult to find low-impact work-outs that are not for beginners, but this one has it all. Well worth it. - posted by Dorene on 2/17/2011
Love this video
It has three different sections. I have not had a chance to try the third one yet, but if it is anything like the other two, I will love it! The workout is great and the steps are not hard to follow due the people who are guiding you. Thanks so much for a great workout! - posted by vicki on 12/23/2010

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.
sample time graph
Level
X
Beginner: Just starting out, very overweight or haven't exercised in over six months.

Intermediate: Active in sports, dance or any regular exercise (2 to 3 times per week).

Advanced: Very active in sports or consistently work out four or more times per week.

Aerobics impact
X
Lower Impact: Both feet never leave the ground at the same time. This minimizes stress on your knees.

Higher Impact: Includes movements like jumps, hops and skips. Very high-impact is called plyometrics.

Mixed Impact: This alternates or combines the above styles.

Aerobics choreography
X
Basic: The easiest to follow. It ranges from simple walking-style marches to sports and athletic movements.

Complex: More intricate combinations and patterns. They're ideal for people who like to dance.

Moderate: More interesting than Basic, less dancy than Complex.

Toning emphasis
X
Upper body: Arms, chest and back.

Lower Body: Legs, thighs, hips and buttocks.

Abs: Abdominals (stomach), core and sometimes lower back.

Total body: Tones all three of the above muscle groups.

Floor aerobics & toning
X
Definition: Includes two workout activities. The aerobics segments are fast-paced standing movements like marching, dancing and jumping. These segments require no equipment. The toning sections are slow, controlled movements working against a resistance. These may include Pilates and weight training.

Benefits: The combination of both activities provides a balanced workout. The aerobics burns calories, strengthens your heart and increases stamina. The toning builds lean muscles, increases your metabolism and makes everyday activities easier.
