Certified instructor description: Straight-forward toning that individually isolates three targeted areas: upper body, lower body and abs. You can focus on your specific “trouble spots” or do the entire program for a total-body challenge. Unusually effective, it blends standing, seated and floor routines to work each muscle from various angles and positions (often at different tempos for even more variety). You’ll start with upper-body moves — push-ups, French presses and dumbbell rows. Then it’s lower-body routines ranging from leg presses and dips to traditional squats and lunges. That’s followed by a series of classic ab floorwork. Led by Stephanie Corley Huckabee. One instructor always shows easier modifications. Requires at least two-to-three sets of dumbbells (e.g. 2, 5 and 8 lb.). The 14" "Fanny Lifter" or High Step is used, but a chair or regular step will also work. ©2002. DVD has: Region 1.

The Firm: Super Body Sculpt

Oldie, But Goodie....
This takes me back to the old Firm days. I love Stephanie...calm, but motivating. This is a good workout for days when I'm a little pressed for time. I feel like I've actually really worked it. I'm a little older (hard to admit!), so I've given up that 17" step thing...I just do it with the intermediate step and I still feel like I'm getting a satisfactory workout....When I'm really missing old Firm tapes, I plug this one in.... - posted by Joanna on 4/27/2012
Great workout!
I love this video, it's easy to follow routine and a great overall workout you can do in 45 minutes! - posted by Mary on 1/5/2012
Great workout but poor DVD set-up
This is a great 5 star workout but it plays like a VHS tape. No chapters; no option to switch the order of the 3 workouts; no option to play all three workouts without warmups & cool downs. Why can't the FIRM learn from Cathe or Kelly Coffey Meyer and use chapters, options, premixes!!! The first workout is upper body which is about 2 sets each of classic weight exercises for back, shoulders, chest, biceps & triceps. The second section is lower body - all standing if I remember right - squats, fanny lifter, lunges. The last section is abs. You can control the intensity with the amount of weight you use. - posted by Mary on 9/26/2010
Great workout for beginners and those with back problems 4 1/2 stars
Stephanie is a great instructor. She is calming and relaxing. I only wish she would be happier, more relaxed, and more fun in her dvds. Positives of the dvd is not everyone is looking for a workout with all the jumping around. There are some of us who want great toning workouts. I am disabled from an auto accident and have back problems. People like myself can train from using no hand weights to small hand weights, and heavier weights. Negative is I hope Stephanie will get more peppy over time with her voice. This isn't a yoga dvd, so I like peppy more upbeat instructors. I hope as she becomes more relaxed doing dvd's she will be more upbeat like Rebekah Sturkie and Allie DelRio Pointer. They are my favorite instructors and I love to buy the dvd if they are in it. DVD should be changed to beginner dvd and it should get 4 1/2 stars. - posted by Gabriel on 6/16/2010
Good basic sculpt workout
The upper body segment is extremely basic, but the lower body segment, with the step-up box, evens out the workout. I would definitely do both segments together for a more complete workout. I would recommend this workout to beginners or to anyone who doesn't feel like working out very hard for the day. - posted by MK on 5/14/2010
Firm is no joke
I have the Firm Box system, and I totally love the lower body workout mostly.. Very effective workouts, I purchased the Firm Wave, but don't much care for it. This workout however, is great, It is a basic weight training Firm Classic. I loved it. I have other workouts, Gilad (is one of my staples) and I enjoy them all.. Keeping it all varied and interesting is what works for me. It is definitely worth $20 Bucks! - posted by Karen on 5/8/2010
The workout is good if you're looking for an intermediate workout
But it is definitely NOT an advanced workout. I consider myself an advanced exerciser but I have been sick for 3 months, (whew!), and only able to workout off and on during that time and mostly just cardio due to a rotator cuff injury. I chose this one as an intro back into weights and it did fine for that as I need to ease myself back into it. If you keep that in mind and use it that way or want a quick and easy 30 minute workout and consider it as an intermediate exercise I think it is fine. I don't like the firm and never have and the music they use drives me crazy, the instructors all talk like they are speaking to an audience that is slightly slow. I will use this one to build up my endurance but won't go back to it unless necessary. - posted by Nancy on 4/19/2010
good workout but..
I really love this workout for quick and complete toning...however the instructor gets on my nerves...if she would just stop saying.."you're almost there"...actually I start mimicking it with her..a small thing but it is distracting... - posted by Allise on 3/28/2010
How "Warm" do you need to be???
I do not like this workout AT ALL. Maybe if you are into 10 minute workouts, and truly do not wish to ever do the video in it's entirety. If you run the DVD from start to finish (keeping in mind it is only 44 minutes long), you will be "warming up" or "getting warm now" for 1/4 of the workout, at least. The sets are one set per exercise and they are very basic. The only thing that makes this video inter/advan is the leg press/climbs on the high step. Other than that this video is beginner at best. I worked up a sweat only by greatly increasing the weight I used. For some reason, Stephanie is speaking in monotone as well. I prefer Allie, but am not really that picky about instructors. I will be putting this video in the 'give away' box, or keeping it in case I have another baby and need something very light for after the birth. I gave it 3 stars, as it would be good for a beginner. - posted by alicia on 3/16/2010
Do-able without the Fanny Lifter
I love the Firm workouts but don't like all the extra equipment they market with it. I don't own the FL and don't intend to get one. I work out in my basement which has a very low ceiling and I'm 5'8" so I have to be careful when doing overhead anything, especially if it's on a step. Anyway, I put my step on two risers, turned it perpendicular to the TV and stood behind it so I was working off the short end. This did just fine for all the dips, lunges and pushups. Then I found my kids' stepstool and that was perfect for all of the seated work. So the DVD is completely adaptable to my environment and I applaud that. Stephanie is very low-key, her voice is steady and soothing and it would be nice if she "broke character" and cracked a joke or two, but all in all this was a good solid workout and I'll definitely return to it. - posted by Sue on 10/9/2009

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.
