Certified instructor description: Three well-designed workouts that use the Firm "TransFirmer" to increase effectiveness and maximize movement variety. Each video has a specific emphasis. "Ultimate Calorie Blaster" is pure fat-burning - quick-changing segments of floor and step aerobics (at both 6" and 8" heights, sometimes with dumbbells to increase intensity). "Aerobic Body Shaping" features upper and lower-body-focused, aerobics-with-dumbbell-toning intervals. The exercises range from classic floor/step cardio to more challenging "four-limb movements," hover squats and plyo-jumps. "Supercharged Sculpting" is all muscle toning, fast-paced with very fluid transitions. All the programs offer lots of intensity options (e.g. lighter dumbbells or stepping higher on the inclined surface). All three videos include 8 to 10-minute "bonus" workouts. Requires The Firm’s angled "Transfirmer" step-bench, although a regular step will also work. The workouts also require several sets of dumbbells (e.g. 3, 5 and 10 lb.). ©2005.

The Firm: TransFirmer (3 Workouts Only)

Leaves Me Wanting More!
I have been a Fan of the Firm since Tape 1, along time ago. I bought The Transfirmer online with the tapes used since you cannot purchase them new any longer. I LOVE this! I have a long history of step aerobics and I have used the Firm Box as well, and I found that given a few run-throughs I am able to do most of the routines easily and since I'll be doing them for years to come it won't get boring anytime soon. I have the fannylifter series and the box series and I use them all with my transfirmer. Stephanie is all energy and it would be fun to take a class from her in person. Allie is my favorite! She is easy to follow and I really enjoy all of her workouts!!! It leaves me Wanting More! - posted by Anna on 9/7/2010
takes some practice
I agree with other posters. ONCE you get the steps down, it is fun. Unfortunately, this was the first workout DVD's I had ever done in my life. Wow. I almost through them in the trash. I had to get Gin Miller's Simply Step just to teach me the basic moves. Aerobic Body shaping especially does not teach you any moves, they are just jumped into. I agree it is hard to see what they are doing. I played it in slow-mo a lot. I also think it is a pain moving the dumb box around all the time. I get weary of The Firms gimmicky equipment sometimes. With all of that said, now that I have the moves mastered I really enjoy doing these from time to time. I especially love Allie's portion. You will definitely feel it for days after doing these for the first time - posted by alicia on 3/17/2010
Works a good sweat but be careful
I overall like this series. Aerobic Body Shaping has everything - cardio, weight training. Supercharged Sculpting is good for days when you don't have an hour. My biggest complaint is Ultimate Calorie Burn. While you work up a heck of a sweat the cuing is lacking but after a few times practicing its not so bad. Be very careful and double check your Transfirmer and make sure they are in their grooves (I almost took a few spills) pause the DVD, double check them then move on. - posted by Chris on 8/9/2009
I'm Inclined to Love This Workout! (Sorry, bad pun!)
This system comes in 2nd place behind The Firm Body Sculpting System #1 for my most beloved and used set of workouts. The Transfirmer step is great. On top of the various 6", 8", 14", side-by-side and inclined conformations, another great advantage is the width of the step, which works for both doing wider steps, and just a better feeling of security in the regular leg press movement. The incline is great for inner thigh, lunges etc. and also the instructors use it for ingenious things like bench press. I don't have the Jiggle Free Arms (deluxe kit) but since I saw the clip at Collage Video, I found the incline also works for push-ups for those of us who haven't quite mastered that move. I now do all push-ups on any video on the incline. It's harder than being on your knees (and easier on your knees!) but doable, so I feel like I'm getting closer to being able to do a real push-up! What sets this workout system apart from other Firm or similar sets is the incorporation of Yoga-like moves, especially in the stretches, which gives it a really nice calming feel and a little something. Pam Cauthen Meriwether's Supercharged Sculpting is a great workout and has some great leg moves and some different arm exercises that other Firm videos which I think are informed by her Yoga experience. Allie Del Rio's Aerobic Body Shaping is also wonderful, and has a wonderful set of leg lunges and dips that work wonders for me. The cardio segments are great fun too. The only thing I don't love about this system is the Ultimate Calorie Blaster. It's so choppy and fast and poorly cued, that in the confusion I have torqued my knees a couple of times. I also get frustrated by losing my place and not knowing what's coming up, and I feel like in the process I am getting less of a workout. On days where I'm really on my game, I have done slightly better. I didn't deduct stars, as I am not the most coordinated person, so someone who picks up moves won't have these issues, I'm sure. I also love the other two videos and the equipment enough to forgive it! - posted by Liz. on 4/9/2009
My Favorite Firm Series!
These series, are my favorite Firm series. I really don't care for the newer ones. They really don't compare much as to the previous old Firm series. Both cardio and weight dvds with this pack are great! I don't understand why the bad reviews. Allie's dvd is great as usual as is a little longer than Stephanie's. My fave is Stephanie's and even though its a 35 min. circuit training, it really brings your heart rate up and then her sculpting segments do make you feel the burn. the 8 min. ab segment is hosted by ALISON and does a good job. Allie's dvd is a 44 min. workout with and 8 min. segment focusing on her outer thighs, inner thighs and but. It's a terrific workout! Pam has a sculpting segment and focuses both on the upper and lower body. Like I said, This series is my favorite and you feel the intensity and burn. - posted by Vivian on 3/14/2009
Just too frustrating
They need new cameramen. First of all, there is nothing explaining what the movements are. So if you are not familiar with 'glute lift' and 'heel drag', you need a 'tutorial' which is nowhere to be found. Then, each move is done only about 4 reps at a time and as the instructor calls out the move, the camera angle shifts to the side, or does a close-up on someone's face and it is very difficult to see what leg is going where. By the time I figure it out, she calls out a new move and the camera pans back again, leaving me frustrated and yelling at the tv. I work out to stay healthy and relieve stress. The only stress relief I got was when I threw these DVD's away. - posted by Amy on 5/17/2008
Not for the clumsy at heart…
If you are a klutz like I am, I wouldn’t recommend this set… If I was more coordinated, I would probably love this set. I will stick to the basics of BSS1 and BSS2. I got too confused overall, and found myself actually getting mad. They have nice little short workouts on the DVD’s. My favorite of the 3 was Pam’s; and the box /groan. It is awkward and heavy, not as easy to move around and store as the Fanny Lifter. - posted by Chris on 3/16/2008
WOW! Talk About Intense
This is hands down a kick your fanny workout. My favorite workout is the one led by Stephanie Huckabee. I felt every muscle in my body after this short but intense workout. Boy was my heart rate up. The whole series is terrific. - posted by Marie on 2/19/2008
Best FIRM Ever
These three workouts are the best workouts that work together. Allie's Aerobic Body Shaping is my favorite. I love all of the cardio. In Ultimate Calorie Blaster I was a little disappointed. The moves were the same as the cardio moves from The FIRM BBS3. I would have preferred to have different set of cardio moves to keep things interesting. Supercharged Sculpting is a great workout. I can heavy up on the weights because it is such a short workout. All in all a really great set of DVD's! - posted by Emily on 8/11/2007
Excellent 4 Day Split Workouts!!!!
I did these three workouts first w/out the TF. And they can be done that way. But then I bought the TF and what a difference it made. UCB w/Stephanie is an intense cardio workout mixing step and floor. ABS w/Allie is a classic Firm AWT workout. SS w/Pam is a short total body toning. I wish Supercharged would have been longer but since they have the Jiggle Free's it doesn't matter. I love the Jiggle Free Arms and Buns. When you do a 4 day split (UCB, JFA and JFB, ABS and Supercharged Sculpting) your body will be transformed. These are very effective workouts and very well worth the money and time. - posted by NA/AWA on 7/22/2007

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.
sample time graph
Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.
sample time graph
Level
X
Beginner: Just starting out, very overweight or haven't exercised in over six months.

Intermediate: Active in sports, dance or any regular exercise (2 to 3 times per week).

Advanced: Very active in sports or consistently work out four or more times per week.

Aerobics impact
X
Lower Impact: Both feet never leave the ground at the same time. This minimizes stress on your knees.

Higher Impact: Includes movements like jumps, hops and skips. Very high-impact is called plyometrics.

Mixed Impact: This alternates or combines the above styles.

Aerobics choreography
X
Basic: The easiest to follow. It ranges from simple walking-style marches to sports and athletic movements.

Complex: More intricate combinations and patterns. They're ideal for people who like to dance.

Moderate: More interesting than Basic, less dancy than Complex.

Toning emphasis
X
Upper body: Arms, chest and back.

Lower Body: Legs, thighs, hips and buttocks.

Abs: Abdominals (stomach), core and sometimes lower back.

Total body: Tones all three of the above muscle groups.

Step aerobics & toning
X
Definition: Includes two workout activities. The step aerobics segments involve stepping up and down on a platform. The moves range from simple stepping to more choreographed exercises. These segments require a step bench platform. The toning sections are slow, controlled movements working against resistance. These may include Pilates and weight training.

Benefits: The combination of both activities provides a balanced workout. The aerobics burns calories, strengthens your heart and increases stamina. The toning builds lean muscles, increases your metabolism and makes everyday activities easier.
