Certified instructor description: A non-stop series of ballet-style exercises designed to tighten and tone your legs/buttocks. The cuing is clear; the moves are effective; the transitions are seamless (each sequence just naturally flows into the next). The program starts with a short upper-body segment and ends with a corework series. But it’s the middle “booty barre” section that really shines. It’s a high-rep medley of varied-angle, varied-tempo dancers’ exercises (a couple at near-cardio speed). The moves include proven favorites like pliés, arabesques, attitudes, curtseys, lunges and hydrants. A high-back chair is utilized for support and precise body positioning (used like a ballet barre). Requires 3 to 5 lb. dumbbells. ©2010. DVD has: Chapter menus, Wide screen.

Tracey Mallett's The Booty Barre

Another good one from Tracey
I have four of Tracey's videos and this is one of my favorite. It is a bit challenging for me but I am moving up from the Booty Barre Beginners dvd. I love Tracey as an instructor - she is motivating and structures her exercises well. What I particularly like is that I always get ab work no matter what. - posted by Deborah on 4/19/2012
Wow, what a work out
I am 51 years old and it took two sessions before I could get through the entire workout, but I LOVE IT. I know it isn't true, but I felt like my body was sleeker after just two workouts! This is a must for anyone who wants a better looking lower body! - posted by Joan on 3/22/2012
Harder than I expected, still satisfied
This video was harder than I expected, but it certainly gives me something to work towards (I'm not too out of shape, but a little overweight and hoping this will fix that). Good total body workout, with an emphasis on the hind-side. Also, the workout is split into sections, so if you're short on time, you can just skip to the part you want to focus on. I use it primarily to tone, opting for jogging to burn fat, but this video includes a sufficient amount of cardio to keep me from jogging when I do it. - posted by Rebecca on 2/27/2012
Tracey Mallett's Booty Barre is awesome!
This is my new favorite. So challenging and yet fun. Tracey Mallet does a great job cueing so easy to follow. This workout definitely works out your whole body and helps you gain more flexibility. - posted by Niki on 1/21/2012
Amazing Video!
Wanna get in shape then you have found the right DVD. After using this video I have seen so much difference in my lower body especially my booty. I like that it's challenging with no dread factor as the time goes so quickly. The arm work was especially good as I find most barre work arms are not as effective. If you have knees issues then follow the modifier as I did, going to buy the beginners one now for days when I am short on time! Tracey is energetic, good at cueing but not annoying. - posted by Lynne on 1/14/2012
Unapproachable
This is more advanced than intermediate video. The moves were not well explained and very tough on the knees. If you are not already in good shape, this video can be very discouraging. Would not pick this to complete your new years resolution. - posted by Karen on 1/13/2012
Fun But Dangerous for Knees
The pluses are that it's a fun and different workout that involves the entire body. Minuses are that the plies are incessant with dangerous positioning for knees. I'm an intermediate exerciser in my latter fifties, so I have to pay attention to safe form. I doubt if any of the people shown on the video are over 35. Thought I might keep it just for the arm workout, but I'm not even sore. Returning it. - posted by Sharene on 12/19/2011 [note from Collage] The following reviews have been received from people working with Tracey: 12/20/11 Hi, Sharene, my name is Alex, and I work with Tracey. I wanted to thank you for the review and comment on the modifications of the plies. As with any exercise, if not done properly, there is always the risk of injury, but we stress modifying everything for your body. Always limit the range of motion to get the benefits without putting your joints in danger. The girl who is demonstrating the modifications is a Physical Therapist and knows about many physical limitations. The ladies loved your comment that they're not over 35! All but one is 40 or over, including Tracey! 12/28/11 Tracey is 40 so I believe there are a few people in this workout that are over 35. Actually, one of the background people is a Physical Therapist. I know this as she is a personal friend of mine. Great workout with exercises that really tone the total body. I've become a Booty Barre addict by doing the videos and taking classes. You can modify and limit your range of motion, doeable for all levels who want a workout that works! Chantal
A Game-Changer
I'm an intermediate exerciser, trying to get more toned. For the past few weeks I've been doing Jackie's Xtreme Timesaver Workout, which is one of my favorite workouts I've ever tried. But, of course, I got bored and I needed something different. I got the Booty Barre after reading all the good reviews, and, let me tell you, they're all true. Even though I didn't sweat much during, I was so sore the next day. It uses muscles in my calves, inner thighs, butt and lower tummy that I don't really use when I work out. It just targeted all my problem areas! Tracy is a wonderful instructor, and I didn't mind her super chipper attitude. The choreography and cuing take a little getting used to but that is to be expected with a new DVD. I would recommend this to any intermediate or advanced exerciser. - posted by Miranda on 12/4/2011
Hello Abs, I haven't seen you in awhile
I really like this DVD. I saw on one of the collage chat sites that this rated as one of the higher calorie burning barre workouts (between 350-400 cal). I don't know how accurate that number is, but if you judged by sweat, I'd say it's right. I haven't lost a single pound doing this 3x per week, running 3.5 miles 2xper week + some walking & one additional day of yoga...but I do feel firmer all over. For me, this workout hits not only my glutes & quads, but my fat pads on my lower back & my abs. In fact, those two areas are where I see the biggest difference. I plan to buy the newer DVD after I do a run through of Tracey Effinger. I'll compare for effectiveness & rotate them to try and shake off some of my jiggle. - posted by Elizabeth on 9/15/2011
"Killer" Upper Body Segment
I was a little hesitant to buy this video because there appeared to be little emphasis on upper body work. Wrong! It may be only ten minutes, but the upper body segment is pure dynamite. - posted by Carol on 9/4/2011

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.
