Certified instructor description: This program is designed to promote a balanced lifestyle and overall body-awareness -- two key factors in long-term weight loss success. Nothing fancy or unique, this is medley of classic, flowing yoga poses (e.g. cat pose, downward dog, cobra, etc.). Suzanne Deason is an experienced instructor; her cuing is clear and very easy-to-follow. Ends with a relaxing stretch to bring “peace and balance.” Beautiful red rock desert setting and quiet music. A great yoga and lifestyle-improvement program, but it’s not nearly fast enough to actually burn fat. ©2000. Cover may vary. DVD has: Chapter menus.

Yoga Conditioning for Weight Loss

Stretching Yoga
This isn't power yoga but it's great for stretching. I love it for showing the various modifications. I have it on VHS and DVD and like how I can watch all the women performing the modifications and the DVD only allows me to follow one woman. I only need to modify a couple positions but have to modify it myself unless I choose a different modification at the beginning. I don't see this as weight loss, more like conditioning but I think it's good for beginners and those who need to stretch and gently build muscles. - posted by Ruth on 4/11/2012
What you make of it Gentle Yoga
I have this on VHS. It's good when you need to get out the kinks and stress. I hardly use it because I'm an advanced non-yoga exerciser and my other workouts include a thorough cool down stretch. I've used this when I needed more stretching and relaxing in my life and this does the trick! And without the spiritual mumbo jumbo I don't want from yoga. (No offense to anybody) You need to burn calories and eat less to lose weight. This yoga workout helps balance your workout routine at the inter-level. You decide if you need to add this to your collection. - posted by Andrea on 2/8/2012
yoga for weight loss
I was not happy with the video. It was very long and there was no way to just do part of it on the menu. I have found videos by Gaiam to be not very user friendly. - posted by Mary on 1/5/2012
I AM GOING TO TRY AGAIN
Attempting a yoga workout is a first for me. I like that the video includes people of various shapes and sizes. Suzanne gives the viewer 3 variations of the same poses: beginner, intermediate, and experienced. You can actually choose your level and the video keys in on that particular person for the entire workout. I liked that! I would have enjoyed it more if my daughters didn't keep interrupting me. I am learning that exercises like yoga and pilates demand your full attention and you have to be focused. Newbies only attempt this workout when the children are not around. I got 15 minutes into the video but had to stop. I did feel good even if for a few minutes. I will definitely try this video again. - posted by Andrea on 5/13/2011
one of the all time best!
This is one of the all time greatest in my opinion. I feel great whenever I do it (I've done it intermittently for years). The modifications would allow an absolute beginner to do the tape, as well as those who enjoy beginner or intermediate level yoga practices. She uses the brick and other helpers in a way that the poses feel great. Go for it- it's wonderful. - posted by Lynn on 3/27/2011
Beautiful scenery
I had this video on VHS and when I got rid of my video recorder, I had to have it in DVD. Sometimes Suzanne Deason does not give full instructions, but this video is easier to follow. I like that she shows two and three modification poses (without having to view them in a special section at the end and try to remember). The Sedona background is soothing and beautiful to look at. I am not sure why it is called yoga for weight loss, because I think a power yoga DVD might be better for that, but the workout is enjoyable just the same. My one criticism might be that some of the poses are held for a very long time. That said, I would definitely recommend this workout. - posted by Robin on 3/24/2011
Good-Very relaxing
I love this workout for days when I don't feel like going too hard or if I'm sore-especially in my back. The 2 workouts are too short for my liking alone, but I do one right after the other. I always feel so stretched and rejuvinated after this workout. It really leaves me feeling amazing-especially in my back and hamstrings. - posted by Samantha on 3/6/2011
AWSOME Relaxing and total body workout
Found this yoga video to be my favorite so far. Suzanne is a great instructor; easy to follow. The filming is a great, as well as the music. I found the poses to be very versatile with different modifications possible. - posted by shal on 2/9/2011
Not for me
To be fair, I'm not into Yoga that much. It is a very relaxing workout and a good stretch but I do not see the weight loss feature. - posted by Cindy on 2/3/2011
Soothing workout
Music = 5 stars, Instruction = 5 stars, Ability to soothe and stretch = 5 stars. Why the 4 star rating? A couple production issues. While you can choose to watch any of the modifications for the complete workout, if you want to do the full poses, you have to choose the "combined workout." You also need to listen to Suzanne Deason's introduction every time you do choose it. While she clearly appears to be nice, knowledgeable, and sincere, I don't want to listen to anyone's introduction more than once. With all the options, you should be able to skip the intro. That said, this is a great dvd for when you want to stretch a lot and strengthen a little. I reach for it on my rest days or after a run. The instruction is top notch. I like Suzanne Deason's calm and encouraging manner. You can tell that she is a master at her craft. - posted by Mary Anne on 1/5/2011

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.
