Qualifications: Certified by ACE for Group Exercise and Personal Training. A continuing education provider for ACE. Presented workshops and master classes throughout the U.S. and the Caribbean. Created the fitness program for Johns Hopkins Hospital's youth obesity program, as well as a calisthenics program for all Kaiser Permanente medical centers in Atlanta.
Personal History: Both of my parents were distance runners when I was a kid. In fact, my father was on the cover of “Runner's World" magazine in 1976. I continued the family tradition and, while training for a marathon, I injured my knee. To aid in recovery, I started taking a great dance aerobics class and I’ve been hooked ever since! I left my corporate job with General Electric and started a personal training and fitness company. My company provides wellness programming and instructors to clients, including Johns Hopkins Hospital and Kaiser Permanente. My fitness and dance center is a three-studio, eco-friendly wellness facility located in an Atlanta suburb. My husband and I have two active sons.
Workout Philosophy: Whatever you choose to do to maintain a healthy life, make it fun, exciting and personally rewarding.
Sucess Story: I started personal training a client who had never exercised in her life. She fell in love with the weights and cardio machines and decided to train for a marathon. In the midst of her training, she began feeling ill and was notified by her physician that she had cancer. After her surgery, she began chemotherapy. She didn't let the side effects of the chemo stop her - she started out walking on the track, then jogging a few laps, then jogging a mile or two. Within 3 months, she was back to running twice a day. Her physicians said they had never seen anything like her recovery in their history of working with cancer patients. She handled all of this while raising three children - 16, 11, and 4 years of age - alone. She will always be a role model to me of believing in yourself and putting mind over matter.
