Personal History: I fell in love with fitness when I was 17 years old; at that age I thought that if a little exercise was good then a lot of exercise had to be better. By the time I was 22 I was basically living in every gym in the Boston area and had the muscles to prove it. On the outside I looked fit and strong, but inside my body was a mess. I had back pain, a shoulder injury and was frustrated. I thought to myself, how can I expect to help others when I can’t get the right results with my own training? I needed to stop, reevaluate and figure out how to move forward.

My quest to really understand movement began with all kinds of research on body mechanics and injury prevention. I completed every certification available and learned from the best in my field. That’s when I discovered functional training; training the body so the muscles work together to help you do more of the things that one loves to do!

At 27 my functional training workouts came to a temporary halt due to a car accident. I suffered from whiplash and was unable to perform my usual workout. I started searching for anything that would help me feel strong without pain. One day I caught a glimpse of a colleague performing an exercise that redefined strength; I watched in awe as she effortlessly folded her body into the shape of the letter “V,” her legs and torso reaching to the ceiling. This movement inspired me to learn Pilates! I discovered that true body control allows you to do more with less effort. I was soon doing movements that I never imagined possible. Eventually, I came to the conclusion that integrating concepts from Pilates with traditional, functional training combines the best of both worlds and is the best way to look and feel amazing.

Workout Philosophy: My life’s purpose is to share what I’ve learned to get you to experience the huge difference that proper body mechanics and a healthy lifestyle can make in the quality of life, and I want you to feel inspired to think of age as just a number, not as a reason to place limitations on your body.

Success Story: Suzanne from Boston is my ultimate success story because she was able to transform her unhealthy lifestyle into one that embodies health and wellness. I first met Suzanne 8 years ago when she had a horrific back injury. After following my workout programs and nutritional counseling she said goodbye to back pain, stayed healthy through two pregnancies, shed the baby weight and got into the best shape of her life. She inspires her young daughters who love to watch her work out, and they imitate many of her positive habits. In her words, “After so many years of unhealthy living, I never thought I would be able to accomplish what I can today. I am so confident in my abilities and aware of my surroundings now, and making healthy choices has become second nature.”
