Personal History: I grew up with a mom who sent me to school with “green drink” and bags of sprouts. My father was a body builder, farmer and a fireman. The day after I graduated from high school, my dad took me to the gym and taught me how to lift weights. I started teaching aerobics six months later, at the age of 18. My background isn’t all healthy though – I absolutely tested the limits on junk food and laziness. But experiencing the entire spectrum of good and bad, healthy and unhealthy has helped me to find balance in all facets of life. That’s what I strive to share and promote: balance! It’s the key to maintaining healthy habits that enhance our lives ... each and every day. I LOVE sharing fitness with the world! I have a passion for exercise because of the inspiring people that do it with me!

Workout Philosophy: I believe the best workouts offer a good mix of mental and physical challenges. But most importantly, workouts need to be lighthearted and FUN! The bottom line is that most of us just need to move more. If you are moving, your body is changing for the better! Period! If you miss a step or two on your workout DVD, who cares? Just smile and keep moving. That’s what does your body good!

Sucess Story: I received this letter from Mindy, in Logan, Ut: When I'm taking Melanie’s classes, I feel energized and motivated throughout the entire class. Before I know it, class is over and I have completed a great, full-body workout. She is creative. When you show up for Melanie’s classes, you know you won’t be doing the same thing over and over again. She is constantly coming up with new material.  I feel very lucky to be a part of a gym where Melanie teaches because she is always bringing something new and you never get bored of your workout.    She is kindhearted. Melanie is not into aerobics just as a career. She really cares about people who have a desire to be physically fit. She recently learned of a woman who lived too far away to attend class and did not have the means to purchase home work out videos. Melanie did not hesitate in asking for her address and mailing her three Tonic videos.  She cared about someone she did not even know, and did a great deal toward making this woman’s life better.   She is full of personality. Her personality is so fun loving, and she portrays this throughout her classes. I have told many people about her classes and they are just as addicted to them as I am! She is not afraid to be herself and it really makes the classes more personable and you feel like you can relate to her. Her classes increase in number because she also makes you feel like you belong.
