Certified instructor description:

Has two complete workouts. Strong and Smooth Moves features a high-energy jazz soundtrack, lots of fast-paced aerobics and a comprehensive body bar or dumbbell toning segment. The aerobic sections features classics like marches, V-steps, grapevines, taps and lunges (with power move modifications to increase intensity). Throughout the toning, Karen has a body bar, but one person always uses 3 to 8 lb. dumbbells (she suggests you alternate equipment for added variety). Lots of body bar variations, from bar-behind-the-neck squats to ab floorwork holding the bar between your calves and thighs.

The second workout, AM/PM Sreamlined Fitness is an inspiring series of graceful, fluid toning moves followed by a comprehensive yoga-style stretch -- a combo uniquely designed to sculpt and lengthen your muscles (for a lean, flexible body). The toning routines just naturally flow from one to the next (each move building on the one before to work the muscle slightly differently for maximum effectiveness). The stretch segment uses “athletic” versions of yoga poses to improve your strength, flexibility and balance.

Light jazz music as you work out one-on-one with Karen. She uses two weighted balls; 2 to 5 lb. dumbbells will also work. Both workouts feature careful, detailed cuing. ©1994 & 1997. Note: VHS version is ONLY the Strong & Smooth Moves program.
