Qualifications: Barbi Powers is a certified Yoga, Group Fitness, and Dance instructor. She studied at New York University and earned her Om Yoga Certification, Nasm Personal Training Certification. She is a Dabce and Gymnastic teacher teaching Jazz, Ballet, Tap Dance and Choreographed routines.

Personal History: Barbi Powers grew up in Milwaukee where she began training in gymnastics and ballet. After competing numerous years in gymnastics and winning the State Championship at the Junior Olympic level on balance beam at age 10, her focus turned solely to dance. She studied classical ballet technique and received many opportunities as a student to perform with The Milwaukee Ballet Company.

In addition to training in Milwaukee, Barbi also studied at the Rock School in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School in Manitoba, Canada.

At 16, Barbi was accepted into the North Carolina School of the Arts where she continued her education and graduated high school majoring first in ballet and later in modern dance.

To further develop her knowledge of modern dance she attended several sessions at ADF where she received personal special mention in the NY Times for her performance in “Tympani” in 2008.   Ms. Powers auditioned for and was awarded placement and scholarships at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts where she obtained her BFA. Upon graduating, she joined the Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company where she toured in Europe and the Continental US.

In addition Barbi danced with Li-Chaio Ping Dance, The Catey Ott Dance Collective, Milwaukee Public Theatre as well as Dance Circus. She has performed works by such renowned choreographers as Bill T. Jones, Susan Marshall, Alwin Nikowlais, Laura Dean, David Rousseve, Charlotte Boye-Christensen, Stacy Spence and Linda Haberman.

A year ago her modern dance skills found her at The Joyce Soho performing with Skybetter and Associates and currently she works with the Radio City Christmas Spectacular as a Rockette! Barbi is also a registered yoga teacher (RYT) with Yoga Alliance receiving her training from OM Yoga.

She teaches at New York Health and Racket Club, subs at Broadway Dance Center and teaches private clients in NYC while continuing her own yoga practice both on and off the mat.

Workout Philosophy: With a strong focus on alignment, awareness and breath I work to change habitual patterns and fix imbalances in the body that lead to injury and discomfort. Using a lot of hands on adjustments to guide the body as well as verbal cues, we work towards a unified approach to holistic health. Focus on breath and concentration trains the mind to stay on task and alleviates mental distractions and many forms of anxiety and depression. By working one on one with clients we build a practice to target your personal struggles both within the body and mind so you can achieve the happiness and health that you deserve to have.
