This Week's Ask Gilad: Suggestions For Slow Metabolism and Burning Fat

Welcome to "Ask Gilad" - a weekly blog written by Fitness Hall of Fame member Gilad.  Thanks for reading.

Question: I have a tough time speeding up my metabolism and burn fat. Do you have any suggestions?

gilad professional pictureAnswer:

Many have the same problem. One thing most could do more of and will help is to build muscle. At rest muscles burn fat.  Make sure the weights you're using are not too light. You should feel a slight burn after each set. If you can't keep your form all the way through the set, the weights are too heavy. Find a middle ground. -Gilad

This Week's Ask Gilad: Commitment Issues With Your Fitness Routine: How to Stay On Track

Question:

I'm having a hard time staying committed. What can I do?

Answer:

The number one thing I see is that people are setting unrealistic goals. Not reaching your goal is one of the most demotivating factors that can causes commitment issues.

Set one small goal that you can achieve, then do that again. Achieving a goal small or large is evenly satisfying and gets you motivated to keep going. Selecting activities you enjoy is also important for motivation.

This Week's Ask Gilad: How to Break Your Weight Loss Plateau!

Question: I have lost 10 lbs and now I have plateaued. Any suggestions on how to overcome this?

Answer:

You need to mix it up, if you do the same exercise routine day in and day out your body will adjust to it. The metabolism makes adjustments and becomes less effective in burning excess fat. Shock your system by mixing up the workouts. Adding different activities into you life is beneficial too.

This Week's Ask Gilad: What Types of Fats are Healthy?

Question: What types of fat are healthy?

Answer: Look for things that contain monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFA). Those can actually keep you satiated and aid in weight loss. Nuts, seeds, olive oil, olives, avocados, and dark chocolate all favorites of mine.

Question: I'm trying to diet and I have such a hard time with it. Any suggestions?

If you reverse the letters in DIET you get EDIT. That's what you want. Edit what you eat towards healthier food choices. This is much better than a restricted plan. That is what my Eat Right Now Plan was designed to help you with.

This Week's Ask Gilad: Best Way to Get Rid of Belly Fat

Welcome to "Ask Gilad" - a weekly blog written by Fitness Hall of Fame member Gilad.  Thanks for reading.

Question: What is the best way to get rid of belly fat?

Answer:

I believe interval training is the most effective way to lose belly fat. Why? With each interval you're increasing intensity. When you work out at a higher intensity level you start burning fat not just calories. That makes a difference compared to a regular cardio workout.

This Week's Ask Gilad: Not Seeing the Results You'd Like?

Welcome to "Ask Gilad" - a weekly blog written by Fitness Hall of Fame member Gilad.  Thanks for reading.

Question:  Hi, I have been using your work out videos & DVDs for years, most recently your 30 yr collection. Given my age (54) I am not seeing the results I would like. Any suggestions?

Answer:

It would be good for me to know more about your workout program and how often you are exercising. Given that I don't have that information I will say this; As we age consistency becomes more important then intensity in your workout program. If you are overall healthy there is no reason why you cant exercise moderately 5-6 times per week. Since the workouts in the 30th anniversary series are only 20 minutes long, you can easily do two of them back to back or combine them with some of the other workout DVD's you have. I hope this helps and if you can provide more information about your workout regiment and diet I'll be glad to give you further input.

This Week's Ask Gilad: "I Desperately Need to Lose Weight"

Welcome to "Ask Gilad" - a weekly blog written by Fitness Hall of Fame member Gilad.  Thanks for reading.

Question: I am stuck- need desperately to lose weight.
Dear Gilad, a few years ago I did your dvd workouts 6 days a week up to 1 hour a day. Then I lost my spouse, I was a widow and I lost my bada** attitude. I really want to lose weight and get back in shape. I am 5’10” a large size 14, when I was working out with you I got down to a size 8. Suggestions please....

Answer:

Very sorry about your loss, it can be debilitating. It sounds however like you are ready to get back into the game. We are currently running our yearly 60 day challenge and from your request it sounds like exactly what you are looking for. The challenge combines our Lord of The Abs series (5 workouts on 5 DVD's) with our Ultimate body Sculpt series (3 workouts on 3 DVD's) and this year we added our Step Aerobics and Step and Tone DVD's to the challenge. Each workout ranges from 40 minutes to 70 minutes and is a highly effective program that I believe will get you back into your 'bada**'  attitude and shape as well. The DVD's (if you don't have them) are available here at Collage and the workout schedule for the 60 day challenge is available on our web site www.bodiesinmotionwithgilad.com

All the best and with hopes that you know no more sorrow,

Gilad

This Week's Ask Gilad: The Best Time to Workout

Welcome to "Ask Gilad" - a weekly blog written by Fitness Hall of Fame member Gilad.  Thanks for reading.

Question: When is the best time to workout?

Answer: Anytime it fits your schedule. It does not make much of a difference. The key is that you do it. Many do it in the morning since that gives them less time to come up with an excuse to not workout.

This Week's Ask Gilad: Advice for Post Surgery Weight Gain

Welcome to "Ask Gilad" - a weekly blog written by Fitness Hall of Fame member Gilad.  Thanks for reading.

Question: "I need help! I use to be able to do multiple VHS tapes of yours years ago. I have had a multitude of surgeries so I've stopped working out and as a result have gained 40lbs. I am now able to start a program of exercise & diet control. I can't work out vigorously but I can at least get my heart rate above my resting heart rate. What advice can you share?"

Answer:

Best thing of course would be to start back up nice and slow. Let the body get back into the groove before you go to the next level and always take it one step at a time!

In regards to DVD's that could help you at this point I would suggest the 'Beginners Weight Loss and Toning Program', 'Sculpt and Tone' and even 'Step and Tone'. All are easy to follow and suited for the level you are describing here. Wishing you a safe and consistent comeback!
